Picture Composition for Class 10 ICSE
My Likes and Dislikes
I have recently been promoted from the Secondary School to Higher Secondary School class! And now am in HSC school, I am quite excited to be in the new grade. I have a beer, counselled by my teachers to be respectful to my seniors and not to pick up a fight with them because in the middle school we would be the junior most. In the Secondary, we were the senior-most class hence we were looked upon by our juniors.
We were also told that some seniors may try to bully us and so we must be careful. However, we are prepared for the higher class, looking forth to the transition. On the first day, in Class XI, our teacher asked us to write about our likes and dislikes. I thought and thought and realized that there were, in fact, a few things which I disliked and liked:
People whom I dislike
I am a boy with very strong likes and dislikes. My parents have always told me that a good person is honest, simple, and kind. Hence, I don’t appreciate people who are artificial. My father strongly believes that such people are like snakes that are ready to bite you behind your back.
As a matter of fact, people, who are artificial, give themselves away very easily, it is not difficult to judge them because their vibes are negative and can be felt, if you do not get impressed, with their hypocrisy. Situations bring to the fore their true character. My father says that one must be watchful of such people, I, thus, avoid making friends who are not genuine.
I like reading books
I love reading books, especially fiction. I love to read Enid Blyton Hardy Boys and Harry Potter. When the last book of Harry Potter was released, I went to the Full Circle shop at Khan Market, early in the morning, at 5.00 a.m. as I wanted to be the first one in my school to get my hands on this much talked about the book.
Though, I am a keen reader I do not enjoy reading newspapers at all. I am often scolded by my parents and teachers for not keeping myself abreast with current affairs. I cannot help it because I have a very vivid imagination therefore stories and novels interest me more. Perhaps, I am a literary kind of a person.
Games I like/dislike
I love playing chess and most outdoor activities. In outdoor games, I like football the most. Though cricket is not my favourite game, all my friends are crazy about the game. Cycling is most I love and I go on expeditions.
TV serials I like/dislike
I like to see the television but dislike watching most of the television serials My mother and sister enjoy watching them and usually we have heated discussions on the uselessness of these ‘Sas Bahoo’ serials. I find them Disgusting and a waste of time. I like seeing the Discovery Channel and ESPN Sports, I also like to see English movies which my sister hates; anyway, that is what I am!
Nature fascinates me and every year I try to go to a hill station where I can wander in the woods away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I dislike going to Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh, for shopping especially with my mother and sister but I do enjoy going to the Malls and do window shopping.
I like cycling
I don’t appreciate teachers, who aren’t flexible, those, who start yelling at you, at the drop of a hat. Such teachers make me feel sick. Teachers, who treat students as their friends, are the ones, whom I adore the most. My parents always insist that in life, we have to deal with every type of people and face many situations which may not be to your liking.
Teachers I like/dislike
I think, when I grow up, I will learn to be more tolerant and patient. I will accept people as they are but be careful in trusting them. A piece of advice to all, you may like or dislike things, which is natural, but never have very strong likes and dislikes.
Notice how each paragraph has unity’. Each deal with different sets of ideas, for example, the first paragraph talks about the kind of people whom I like/dislike; the second talks about books, the third about TV serials, the fourth about games, fifth about cycling, and the sixth about teachers. The conclusion sums up the composition by reflecting on the qualities of tolerance, acceptance and advice of not to have strong likes and dislikes.
Genuine — sincere, honest;
fiction — fantasy;
breast — keeping up;
literary — bookish;
disgusting — repulsive;
yelling — screaming, shouting;
